Clogged Up Soakaways or Drains will make you irritated
Unfortunately, most of us have experienced being in the shower with the water level rising rapidly. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A choked drain sounds horrible to begin with. And it’s not confined to the bath and shower, you could be brushing your teeth getting ready for bed only to be confronted with the sink filling up rapidly. Nobody likes to deal with stopped drains because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). Yet many residential bathrooms or kitchen will suffer from a clogged drain incident at one particular point or another. The best course of action for you is to be prepared to deal with it by learning how to unclog bathroom drains.
Why do drainage get clogged up, what is the underlying cause?.
Most often, when the dirt, sand and debris that we wash off from our bodies combines with the hair that we shed in a bath, all those entangled clumps accumulate within and eventually block the drainpipe. The problem is further exacerbated when household products such as soaps, detergents, shampoos and conditioners and others are allowed to build up on the growing accumulation. Eventually the clumps of accumulated matter prevent water from emptying out quickly or may even completely seal the drainpipe hole. So, if you are finding the water isn’t flowing freely through your drainpipe resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a blockage in your plumbing system.
Clear Up Your drainage fast.
Here are a few things that you can do to clean your obstructed bathroom drain pipe and get the water running. The first thing you will have to do is take out the stopper of the blocked sink or drain pipe. With a bathroom sink this can be as easy as pulling it right out or as complicated a problem as looking under the sink and removing the nut that holds it in place. For a bathtub you may be able to simply take out the plug, otherwise you might have to take off the overflow plate in order to get at the assembly.
You may be able to see the clog clearly after the stopper has been taken out. Those greasy lumps of entangled hair and residue can be seen sticking to the sides and corners of the drainpipe. Try to pull it out, as much as you can. If it is out of reach, you can use a wire clothes hanger to remove it if you can hook into the debris and pull it. Your drainpipe is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.
In a case of deeper clogging, your hand or hooked wire may not do the trick – you may have to try the next step. The most practical way to clean such deep-seated blockages is a drainpipe plunger. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drain pipe – this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Next, place the plunger directly over the drain pipe opening and methodically pulse the plunger up and down several times. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.
You may have to turn to a chemical solution, if the plunger fails to do the job. Chemicals should be applied only after all else fails because they are unsafe and can damage your bathroom hardware.
You can always take expert help if this concerns you.
If all the steps outlined above fail to clear the choked drain, then it is best to call in a crack team – a qualified and experienced plumber or drains contractor from your area. Plumbers should have equipment that can help unclog drains quickly and easily. It might cost you some money, but a plumber’s expertise can give quite a relief with this type of messy household problem.
