What can you do if you are stuck with a stopped drain? Well the easiest way to unblock your bathroom drainage is to use a waste pipes plunger. The entire process of opening obstructed drain with a plunger is simple and straightforward. Obviously you shouldn’t move the plunger up and down forcefully as this will be ineffective and could make the blockage worse. Ideally the plunger’s bell shaped head should be used to cover the drain fully, you can then push the plunger down and then pull it up again to create suction in a slow rhythmical manner. Hopefully the suction of the upwards movement of the drains plunger will pull what ever is stuck in your drain back up into the bathroom toilet, tub or sink. You may notice small overspill openings in your bath or sink and you should always remember to block these up with a wet paper towel or sponge to create maximum suction.

You could use a drains pipes clearance chemical that is designed to break down the material instead of the more conventional plunger. The chemicals are normally applied only after an unsuccessful attempt to remove the clog using a plunger. Leave the chemical for a few minutes so that it loosens the blockage, and then use hot water to rinse out the drainpipe, taking care not to splash yourself. Use rough clothes that cover your body fully as things could get a bit mucky and some of the strong chemicals may spill on you and burn exposed skin. After chemical flushing, you may try the plunger again – this can cause the chemical/water mix to splash back on you – eye guards are highly advisable here. To avoid unwarranted issues from creeping up, follow the manufacturers instructions ardently.

Another thing that you can do, if the plunger doesnt remove the blockage, is to use the pliers and pipe wrench to open the nuts that hold the P-trap in place. You should have a bucket and a towel handy as this can be a really dirty job. By covering the jaws of your wrench with electrical tape you will avoid damaging the chrome on your pipes and it will also allow you to get a better purchase of them. Once you have removed the P-trap you can inspect the trap thoroughly for any blockage. If you don’t see anything, the problem might unfortunately go far deeper and may be located between the trap and the drains soil stack.

If you are trying to unclog your toilet you can use a toilet auger. If on the other hand you are attempting to unclog your tub or sink you may need to use a drain pipe snake. The instrument is designed in a way that it can travel deep down into your pipes. With the help of the adjustable handle, you can literally drill into the blockage and pull out the blockage from the drain pipe. After you have successfully removed the the blockage you should put the P-trap back into place and check if water can flow through freely. Ensure that all the joints and the P-trap are firmly sealed and that there is no leakage anywhere.

After trying all of these methods and you still have a water flow problem, it is time to contact a drainage contractor or local plumber. If the clog is stuck in the soil stack or the sewer service pipe has collapsed either due to age or because of natural causes, then you can do nothing much expect for relying on the expert drains company to solve your problem.
