Make sure the drainage system is well designed

Drain pipes carry waste effluent from your fixtures down to the sewage system. Pipes are laid in between inspection chambers in sewer systems that run from houses. This system should be capable of self-cleaning without causing a blockage. The use of correct gradients is a must here. Drain lines mostly comprise of UPVC tubing. It is essential to test the drainage system properly before allowing its use. Particular attention should be paid to the pipes between the inspection chambers.

Trenches should be dug and the drainage pipes should be laid in them. Three hundred to five hundred millimeters is the typical depth adopted. When the sewer system passes under a walkway, car park area or driveway, the pipe must be enveloped in concrete to protect it. Excavation of the channel to the desired level must be done at the time of work commencement. These must be inclined towards the sewers or effluent storage tanks. A one to four ratio is appropriate for the incline. Proper packing, integrating and cramming of the trench base is usually done to provide a firm foundation. Use pegs to set the levels in the trench bottoms.

Straight lines must be adopted for laying the drainage pipes as bends will create weaknesses and areas where blockages can occur. The pipes should then be connected with sockets so that it can finally reach up to the building. The sewer system should be placed on a solid, smooth and flat ground. Male and female sockets should be used to join the pipes using a good adhesive. When using the adhesive, the manufacturer’s instructions should be followed. The pipes must go into the full depth of the wall, while linking to the inspection chambers. Avoid debris inside the pipes as it will impede water flow.

When the drainage pipes are laid, they must be explored and checked out carefully. Make sure that they are not punctured at any point. Make certain that the hooks of the sockets are firmly fixed in the foundation. The hooks must be as stunted and small as possible. The inspection chamber’s entry and exit points need to be graded well, in addition to being leveled. Once all joints are done, wrap the system and cover with soil. Link the system to the septic tank. Complete the drainage system by connecting the utilities and test the full system.
