One of the most unsafe aftermaths of a plumbing system stoppage is sewage backflow.

You should contact a drains pipes service like Dyno Rod immediately if you have sewerage backing up in your toilet, bath tub and/or shower. This sewage will contain germs so it should be cleaned at once and your plumbing system should be repaired so as to prevent it from happening again.

As you wait for the plumbers to reach your location, start sanitising the affected area with a mixture of bleaching agent and water with a ratio of one cup to five gallons respectively. While cleaning up wear long trousers, gloves, glasses and sensible footwear and make sure that your children, aging people and household pets do not go near the problem area. Use clean warm water and soap to wash your hands once you have finished. As another temporary measure, if you can limit the water going into your waste pipe you can prevent the volume of sewage backing into your home.

It may be a clog between the shower and toilet, or the waste line may be plugged. Regardless of the reason, providing protection to your household and yourself from risky waste should come to the forefront.

Diarrhea, high temperatures, stomach pains, chills and vomiting are some of the common symptoms of being exposed to raw sewerage. If you recognise any of these symptoms in yourself, get medical treatment right away.

All objects contaminated by the sewerage, including kids’s play items, should be disinfected by mixing one cup of odorless household bleaching agent for every five Imperial gallons of water. You will have to throw away any items that can’t be cleaned properly such as mattresses and of course any food that may have been polluted.

If the sewage leakage was around the shower, you might want to use a snake, part of a plumbers toolkit. For such drainpipes and pipe joints in close proximity, a quarter-inch snake of 25 feet length will work fine. The snake can be maneuvered conveniently down the plumbing pipes. Sometimes a toilet in the bathroom is quite clear while the shower in the same area has gotten clogged. This can occur because the toilet trap sits more or less six inches above the flooring, while a shower drain is normally placed at the flooring level.

The drainage back flow may be too severe for you to tackle, in which case you should immediately ask for professional help. They will be able to clean up the leaked sewerage thoroughly, as well as find out exactly where the clog is located. It is better to let the expert handle the plumbing fixes unless you know exactly what you are doing.
