Place clogged drains behind you with these no-frills points
Clogged drains happen to everyone, and they are not fun. A choked drain in a sink, toilet, shower or bathtub can quickly cause waste water to accumulate. In such a situation, the blockage should be removed immediately however it is not very easy to do so with the household methods. If you get a professional plumber to do the job, it will take a great deal of money from your bank account. If the blockage is really stubborn, the plumber’s bill can be quite stressful. In the event of multiple drains becoming clogged simultaneously in your home, you will wonder why you did not have your drains inspected, as a precaution.
Now what exactly leads to clogging of the drains?.
Carelessness is one main reason for clogged drains. It is normal for kitchen sink drains to get blocked if there is no strainer used to get hold of food particles and other wastes while cleaning the food or the utensils. A buildup of these particles can easily clog the drain. In order to worsen the situation, fatty substances in food like oils or cooking grease can also accumulate in the pipes and develop a clog. When it comes to toilets, it is the excessive flushing of the toilet paper which can cause the blockage.
One of the main reasons for a clogged toilet drain is flushing of unintended toilet items. A blockage can be caused instantly or over a period of time by objects like sanitary products, baby-wipes and paper towels. When hair becomes stuck in pipes and gathers inside, showers, baths and sinks may become blocked. Items such as shampoos, soaps, toothpaste, hair gel further complicate the blockage problem as they accumulate over time.
It is unfortunately the case that clogs can be caused by problems completely unrelated to what is put into your drains. The other things which are known to incur drainage problems are tree roots, scale, rusted pipelines and damaged drain lines.
There are a number of rectification methods for a drain clog.
Try using acids and other suitable chemical products to clear drain blockages. But these chemicals have harmful long term effects on your health, the environment, your fixtures and their drainage system. But the good news is that you can clear the blocked drains in a natural way too. One such method involves running boiling water through the drains on a regular basis. You could also use vinegar and baking soda. You just need to run diluted vinegar initially into the blocked pipe and spray baking soda moderately on it. Wait for 15 minutes so that the mixtures sets in properly and then wash it off with boiling water to clear the blockage.
Inspect and Prevent as an alternative to fixing problems.
Your home plumbing system works similarly to any mechanical device, tool or motor vehicle. Similar to all your possessions, it also needs constant examination and ongoing maintenance. You can be vigilant about what’s going on with your drains and pipes and perform part of the inspection yourself, as you are most familiar with how the drains behave. If you want to get rid of all the drainage problems and associated expenses, all you need to do is have an experienced plumber to check your drains regularly. You can even ask the plumber to snake all the drains on a yearly basis. If you experience drain clogs very often or your pipes are susceptible to blockages, you may wish to have your drain lines snaked more often. Video inspections are another good method to check the drains regularly.
It is very important to have your drains inspected on a regular basis to prevent problems that can be not only expensive, but also very annoying.
