Solve your plugged drains problems

At the end of a hard day’s work, you get into the shower and enjoy the buzz of hot water on your face and then, suddenly your toes seem to go under water too – Oh no, the drainpipe is clogged once again!. How disgusting! the drain pipe is obstructed . Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. Clearing blocked drainage is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drainage are). However it is something that every household has to deal with, sooner or later. But there are ways to unblock bathroom drainage easily and can make this unenviable job a lot easier.

What Causes choked drains in your home?.

Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drain and the pipes are the main cause. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already choked drainage. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drains get completely choked. If water builds up quickly in your sink or tub when it should flow smoothly out of your drain, you may already have a plumbing blockage on your hands.

How do you unblock your drainage?.

If you want your water to start running freely then there are a few things you can do to rectify the problem. Whether you are working with a sink or a bath drain, the first step to take is to remove the plug. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. For a bathtub you may be able to simply take out the plug, otherwise you might have to take off the overflow plate in order to get at the assembly.

It is important to remove the plug because only then you can view the things that are clogging the drainpipe inside the drainage pipe. Those greasy lumps of entangled hair and residue can be seen sticking to the sides and corners of the drain. Try to pull it out, as much as you can. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the clog or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. Your drain is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.

If you need to disassemble the drain and notice that the clog is not even within reach of a wire hanger, you will have to try another method. A very useful tool is a drain pipe plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. To use the plunger the overflow drain pipe should be covered first with the help of a wet cloth, this will make the suction stronger and make it harder for air to enter the pipes. Then, put the plunger over the drain and push up and down half a dozen times. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be instantly drained when the plunger is released.

You may have to turn to a chemical solution, if the plunger fails to do the job. Chemicals used in these cleaners are poisonous and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health risk.

Get skilled help if this is necessary, call in a drains contractor.

If the above methods fail to solve your clogged up drain problem then you may have to contact a plumber. Professional plumbers will have specialist equipment and know-how to unblock your drainpipe in next to no time. Though it won’t come cheaply, an experienced plumber’s help can provide peace of mind.
