Supporting Mental Health in Our Community

Here at Professional Building Supplies, we strive to give back to our community in impactful ways. Recently, we had the opportunity to support an incredibly deserving local charity - Butterfly Effect Well-Being in Harlow - through product donations for a special building project.

The Project

Butterfly Effect Well-Being is a Community Interest Company founded by two inspiring women, Angela and Dawn, who both lost loved ones to suicide. After experiencing such tragic loss, Angela and Dawn made it their mission to support mental health and bring people together to combat isolation. They formed Butterfly Effect Well-Being to run support groups, workshops, therapy services and more for local people struggling with mental health issues.

This amazing charity was selected for a build by the BBC One programme DIY SOS: The Big Build. The DIY SOS team took on the enormous task of transforming a rundown former caretaker's bungalow into a bright, warm hub for Butterfly Effect's services. With the help of volunteer tradespeople and donations from local suppliers like us, they fully renovated the building inside and out.

Our Donation

The requirement from us was to provide the project with a roofline and rainwater system, so our team put together a gift package of:

• A full Deepflow Guttering system comprising of gutter lengths, downpipes, unions, stopends, and accessories
• A comprehensive Roofline system in the colour 'Black Ash', made up of Replacement Fascia and Vented Soffit, as well as the relevant accessories and fixings

We were honoured to contribute to the project - our products helped the DIY SOS team weatherproof the building and complete the exterior renovation. Reliable, quality roofline materials were essential for creating a space suitable for Butterfly Effect's needs - an accessible community hub that can operate year-round for clients of all ages and abilities.

Seeing the incredible regeneration of the once-derelict bungalow was extremely rewarding. The DIY SOS team and army of volunteers did an amazing job creating a nurturing, comfortable environment for Butterfly Effect's mental health services. The new hub will enable the charity to expand their offerings and help even more people locally who are struggling with social isolation and suicidal thoughts.
