Soakaway or geocellular tanks provide the perfect solution for permeable and semi-permeable car parks with underground storage systems for rainwater.

Greater urban development has led to greater contamination from parking areas and roads. When rainwater travels across these surfaces it can collect debris and pollutants which can lead to potential contamination of our downstream waterways.

Utilising Car Park Drainage SuDS schemes

When considering car park design a SuDS scheme should be considered to either create a permeable surface or drain run-off from car parks.

Surface water run-off can cause erosion pollution and even flooding. When stormwater falls on car parks it can pick up oil and fuel, hydraulic fluids, grease, and other pollutants from the surface - if discharged directly into watercourses then this could cause contamination which can have a negative effect on the local environment.

By using a suitable SuDS scheme pollutants that get picked up can be broken down naturally. 

If you need to discharge water directly then you should allow run-off to pass through an oil separator before discharge. This should remove oil, grease, petrol and diesel appropriately.
